When I was first running for mayor in Wheeling in 2015, I heard about this mayor from nearby Braddock, Pennsylvania who had made great strides reversing the decline and disinvestment of his community. Later that year, after he had declared his candidacy for the U.S. Senate, I attended one of his campaign events and saw in him a kindred spirit who brought a fresh energy and perspective to public office. Today, nearly a decade later, it is incredibly humbling to have him as a U.S. Senator endorsing me in my campaign to join him as a Senate colleague in Washington. And if elected, it would be my hope to bring that same common-sense approach to the Senate that I have utilized during my own tenure as mayor of a city reinventing itself.
